Individuals and groups have been pressing for stamps to honor these groups of veterans for several years. Letters of support are needed for a stamp proposal to be accepted by the U.S. Postal Service. U.S. stamps are selected by the Postal Service's Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee and the Postmaster General (learn more at their website). They receive thousands of proposals each year, and only a very few are successful. Convincing justification for stamp proposals must be shown, as well as impressive public support. No minimum number of letters or petition signatures for successful stamp proposals are listed by the Postal Service. The Postal Service does not accept stamp designs of any kind, only stamp subject proposals. Once a subject is approved, the Postmaster General leads a search for the stamp design.
