The Simon Wiesenthal Center, on Friday, October 19th, notified the stamp campaign that they are voicing their support for the effort to honor the Japanese American (Nisei) World War II veterans with a U.S. commemorative postage stamp. The educational arm of the Center is most famous for the Museum of Tolerance, located in Los Angeles, California, which receives over 350,000 visitors annually. This month the American Jewish Committee also announced that they will be supporting the stamp effort. Nisei soldiers liberated and aided Holocaust survivors from one of the Nazi concentration camps in Dachau. The story has been well-documented historically, and a number of veterans have provided videotaped testimony that can be seen by clicking on the "Unexpected Heroes" link on the Go For Broke National Education Center website.
The Center's mission is as follows:
The Simon Wiesenthal Center is an international Jewish human rights organization dedicated to repairing the world one step at a time. The Center’s multifaceted mission generates changes through the Snider Social Action Institute and education by confronting antisemitism, hate and terrorism, promoting human rights and dignity, standing with Israel, defending the safety of Jews worldwide, and teaching the lessons of the Holocaust for future generations. With a constituency of over 400,000 households in the United States, it is accredited as an NGO at international organizations including the United Nations, UNESCO, and the Council of Europe. Headquartered in Los Angeles, the Simon Wiesenthal Center maintains offices in New York, Toronto, Palm Beach, Paris Buenos Aires and Jerusalem. For more information, go to http://www.wiesenthal.com/
